How to Stop the Bleeding?

I am a 48 year old with am eight month hx of bleeding between periods. A uterine bx was neg for uterine ca and showed I was deficient in progesterone. My np prescribed aygestin. I can not bring myself to use it as the side effects are so horrible (I used it once briefly about ten years ago for repeated miscarriages). So I tried progest cream with usp progesterin sort of grasping at straws — it  actually stopped my bleeding. After 21 days I stopped per the label and got a very heavy period. So after three days I just started using the cream again and the bleeding stopped within 24 hours. What should I do?? Can I just use the cream all the time? Is there any reason I need to have a period? Would using micronized oral progesterone be any less likely to produce symptoms? Will this bleeding stop when I stop producing estrogen with menopause or should I just succumb to a hysterectomy — which  I do  not want — now before I go through two years of torture and anemia like most of my  friends??
