Irregular Cycles while Breastfeeding, following tubal ligation
Question
I had a baby 5 1/2 months ago. This was my 4th. I delivered him via c-section and had a tubal ligation at the same time. I have breastfed exclusively until a month ago when I introduced baby foods. I am still nursing 3-4 times a day. I had a very heavy period for the first time on July 5 through July 11. After that I have continued to have spotting and brownish bleeding up until about 6 days ago. I thought that I would get my period on August 2. I am 30 yrs old and I have always had regular 28 day cycles. It is now August 9. Could I possibly be pregnant even with a Tubal Ligation or is my cycle just not back to normal yet or what?Thank you.

As long as you are breastfeeding, there can be a normal irregularity of the periods. It is not unusual to miss several periods (even after having had one) during the first year after giving birth to your child, when you are
breastfeeding regularly.
It is possible to become pregnant after a tubal ligation only if the tubal ligation was botched. Otherwise it is not possible.
