I am breastfeeding my 22 month old. I had a miscarriage in AprilĀ and suspect that I might be pregnant again. My daughter nurses at naptime, bedtime, and once or twice during the night. Am I at an increased risk of having another miscarriage? Should I wean? Thank you.Ā Marie

Should I Wean?

Marie,
Please accept our condolences on your miscarriage. We are sure you know that breastfeeding is best for both you and your daughter, so please don’t consider this a reason to have to wean. There is no evidence that nursing causes miscarriage, and we know scores of moms who have successfully nursed through pregnancies with no difficulties. To ease your concerns, it would be best to consult your physician for advice on other precautions, and in the interim, enjoy this special time with your nursing daughter.
