I am a 26 year old female with 2 children and currently use the IUD as my method of birth control. I am planning to have another child in about 3 years and want to know the typical amount of time it would take to conceive once the IUD is removed. I currently have the Paraguard.

Conceiving After Removing IUD
Question
Answer
The general recommendation is that after an IUD is removed you wait until after at least one normal menstrual period occurs before trying to conceive a child.
You may wish to consider having the IUD removed sooner, however, especially in light of the risks of the IUD and its possible mechanisms of action.
We really don’t know for sure, but we think the IUD can interfere with fertilization and with egg and sperm transport. Also, it probably can cause early abortions by not allowing early embryos to attach to the lining of the uterus. Many women are not aware of this last possibility.
