I had a miscarriage. I didn’t naturally miscarry the baby so I had a D&C. After the D&C I ended up getting a uterine infection and was in and out of the hospital for a month and a half. On my last visit my doctor told me that there is a chance that I may never have kids again. I was wondering why this is. Is there a chance yet for me or should my husband & I go on with life the way it is?

D&C Complications

Significant infections related to miscarriage have been uncommon in my experience. I always make a point to use antibiotics to avoid the sort of situation described above. I usually avoid D&C for miscarriage, although the risk of complications from D&C is low. Spiritual management is important in D&C. Finally, whenever a miscarriage occurs, a thorough search for the cause is in order. I usually find multiple causes, including biochemical and hormonal causes.
While there is a chance for infertility, it is not a foregone conclusion. Depending on what is in the records, the likelihood of infertility may not be that high. You should: 1.) Start with an NFP teacher and doctor 2.) Pray 3.) Pursue evaluation if not pregnant in 4-6 months 4.) as Churchill said, “Never, never, never, never, never, never, never give up”.
