Have Not Had My Period Yet
Question
I am 14 and I have not started my period…ever. When I went to the bath room I noticed I had brown discharge. What could this be? And why is it happening?

Dear Mary,
First off, 14 is still within the norm for not getting your period. You can get it anytime between ages 9-16. If you were seeing a brown discharge that could be the beginning of your first period. Sometimes a girl will see a cloudy or even brown discharge before her first period begins. This could happen months before the first period or it could be the beginning of your period. You may want to talk to your mom, big sister, or other adult and maybe get some light pads to wear in your underwear. You may want to read up on getting your first period so that you are prepared for it too.
