Have Only Had One Period
Question
I had my baby about five months ago. I have been breastfeeding, and expressing up until nine weeks, now it’s fully breastfeeding. I got my period last month, and it hasn’t returned— is this normal? We have been using condoms so I don’t expect to be pregnant.

It seems that the increased breastfeeding stimulus is suppressing ovulation which is normal. When the baby begins eating solids and breastfeeding less, ovulation and thus fertility returns. Since you had a menstrual period you may have ovulated a couple of weeks before it began. Maybe you were breastfeeding less at that time and your fertility returned. Changes like this can cause the cycles to be irregular and mostly long for a variable time. You can learn the Billings Ovulation Method in order to observe the fertile times in a cycle and plan a pregnancy or not. This method is 99 % effective for postponing pregnancy while the condom has a much lower effectiveness.
