Thyroid problem, insufficient progesterone

Question

I am 38 yrs old & have had 3 miscarriages over the past 5 years. In all 3 cases my progesterone levels were insufficient to sustain the pregnancies, & I miscarried usually in my 6th wk.  Tests revealed a mildly low thyroid, and a fibroid (said to be located in an area which should not be a cause of miscarriage or infertility). These tests were done just over 2 yrs ago, and I am now in my 7th wk of pregnancy. My thyroid problem has been regulated with a low dose of synthroid for the past 2+ yrs. I am again testing low (was at 11 in wk 6, now at 13 in wk 7). My doc put me on Crinone 8% twice a day.  The increase from 11 to 13 was over 4 days, all taking the Crinone. He is not optimistic but instructs me to continue. Do I have ANY chance of making it through and taking this to term??

These progesterone levels are much too low. The absorption and dose of Crinone 8% is inadequate. This pregnant mother needs to add or substitute her progesterone supplementation with progesterone in oil which usually comes in either 50mg/ml or 100mg/ml given as an intramuscular injection. I would recommend a minimum of 200mg given IM twice a week. This needs to be given under the direction of a physician who is willing and educated in giving progesterone supplementation in this manner. This will help maximize the chance of this patient carrying her unborn child to term.
