I was put on progesterone supplements by my ob-gyn due to two previous miscarriages. She had me start taking them the first day of my period and follow through a fourteen day treatment cycle. I was wondering how long do I need to take these supplements before I can start trying to conceive again? Also if I do become pregnant, can I take these supplements while pregnant? Please let me know.–Thanks

In a natural setting, progesterone is usually produced after a woman ovulates. It helps prepare the lining of the uterus to receive a newly formed conceptus (i.e. fertlized egg). Using it prior to ovulation will more than likely not work. The key then is to identify when ovulation occurs in order to supplement with progesterone. This presumes that a progesterone deficiency is the reason for the miscarriages. Progesterone is also used to support a pregnancy, but requires levels to be followed.
