Sponsor a Seminarian

by Lynn Keenan, MD

Reflecting on our challenge to bring about the Culture of Life, it seems wise to focus more of our efforts on the years of formation.

For many years, CANFP has offered First Year Free membership to new clients of teachers who are themselves Professional members of CANFP (NFP teachers can contact us to participate in this program!) In the first year of learning NFP, there can be challenges as couples take the less traveled road, cooperating with God’s design to keep love and life connected. The NFP teacher provides an  invaluable personal connection to the clients, educating and encouraging them. The gift of a CANFP membership complements this with exposure to the larger California NFP community, through the quarterly newsletter, events, and this website. The Ask the Expert section is particularly popular, learning from the  inquiries of  other couples, or asking their own unique question.

We expanded this to offer another service, offering First Year Free Professional memberships to all new NFP teachers. The first year of teaching NFP is a time of immense growth and joy. We want to support and be a resource to teachers on this journey. In addition to providing advice and encouragement, membership also includes opportunities to market their services as many couples find their NFP teachers through our Professional Directory website page. New teachers who did not receive a CANFP invitation packet during their training, can contact  CANFP to request one. We want to  support all new teachers on this tremendous journey.

CANFP provided outreaches to two audiences that are not only in the midst of their own formation, but in a position to form others on these principles. I was privileged to accompany Professor Janet Smith in offering a weeklong series of presentations in Southern California to those who educate our future CANFP members and leaders—school teachers! CANFP also offerrd a weeklong program on NFP and married love to seminarians. These were exciting opportunities!

We would love to offer each of these seminarians, and every seminarian throughout California, the support of a membership in CANFP. We are hoping sponsors will step forward, to “adopt” a seminarian, through funding an annual Student Membership ($25) to support and educate them during their formation, and commit to pray for their “adopted” seminarian. We know it will impact them profoundly to know they are being prayed for by a member of the California NFP community (we will share your identity with them if you like or you can remain anonymous). We are also confident they will feel encouraged and more prepared to spread the good news of NFP once they are ordained into service, as a result of their CANFP Membership throughout their formation. They will receive from us, on your behalf, a welcome packet which will include a CD and a few well chosen materials, such as Humanae Vitae,  Creating a Culture of Life within a Parish: Begin with Natural Family Planning, Prayer for Marriage and Family, Life Giving Love in the Age of Technology, and Married Love and the Gift of Life. In addition, they will receive all the benefits of a personal and professional association with the NFP community through CANFP, including the CANFP NEWS quarterly. We are confident the ongoing exposure to articles by couples, teachers, physicians, and clergy will encourage and empower them to share this life giving,  but counter cultural, message.

Simply send your donation, with the notation Seminarian, to CANFP at 1217 Tyler St. Salinas, CA 93906. Your gift and prayers will impact many lives, perhaps even those in your own family. So please, join us in our efforts to reach out and support those in clergy formation.

CANFP provides education programs tailored to the audience, not only on Natural Family Planning, but on the wide variety of topics related to it.

Programs can be continuing education for NFP Professionals, introductory information for a lay audience of youth or adults new to the topic, or specifically tailored to the interests of a professional audience, such as educators, physicians, or clergy. Content is faith based or secular, whichever is suitable for situation.

CANFP offers a variety of resources for those just discovering Natural Family Planning, as well as to meet the varied needs of our CANFP Members. Most resources are available to any visitors to our site. Some resources do ask you to register as a site user in order to access them, others are available only to CANFP Members.

CANFP statewide conferences, regional events offered in collaboration with local partners, events featuring CANFP speakers, or exhbit, as well as other events throughout the state of interest to our NFP community.  Come meet one of our experts at one of these events or book a speaker for your own upcoming event.

CANFP depends on the gifts, talents, and generosity of our members and supporters. The success of our mission depends on the collaboration of our members.
