In a world of electronics, we are all familiar with “edit-undo”. “Edit-undo” can seem like a wonderful thing when it is used for computer programs, as long as it is still acknowledged that, in the real world, actions have consequences. Today our world is upside down because people don’t recognize this fundamental truth. Abortion and contraception have brought an illusion of actions without consequences: the possibility of having sex without the worry of pregnancy.
In many ways, abortion and contraception are considered a necessary evil, a protection from the inevitable. Many will say, “I wouldn’t have an abortion, but we should keep it legal for women in crisis situations”, or “Teenagers are going to have sex, so let’s make sure they are protected”. However, this is not the way contraception and abortion should be regarded. If they were not options, teens having sex would not be “inevitable”. Crisis pregnancies would not be “inevitable”. Without the possibility of “edit-undo”, people would be more aware of the potential consequences, and would give more consideration to their actions.
Furthermore, abortion and contraception are not truly an “edit-undo”; they bring about much more suffering and heartache than do the natural consequences that they attempt to eliminate.
