Can pregnancy result without intercourse?
Question
Answer
Last Updated: July 10, 2013
For pregnancy to occur, sperm must enter the vagina. While directly depositing it there is obviously the most effective way of achieving pregnancy, pregnancy can and does result without vaginal penetration, or even without ejaculation, if sperm are introduced to the opening of the vagina. Because the pre-ejaculatory fluid of the male contains sperm as well, not only is it not necessary for vaginal penetration to occur, it is not even necessary for the man to ejaculate for pregnancy to occur. The only 100% way to avoid pregnancy is to avoid all genital contact, including the type you inquire about.
In addition, it is important to understand STD’s can be transmitted through anal intercourse as well. In one study, 90% of the anal cancer patients studied had HPV, a sexually transmitted disease which can be transmitted during anal sex. Anal sex is a risk factor for anal cancer. Though a rare form of cancer, in the last thirty years it’s incidence has increased 160% in men, and 78% in women.
