Could this be my granddaughter’s first period?

My granddaughter is 11 and I am her guardian. She has had a brown discharge today and we were wondering if this could be the beginning of her menstrual cycle. She hasn’t had one yet.

Yes, it is very possible this is the beginning of your granddaughter’s menstrual cycles. Age 11 is not too young an age to begin these changes in her body.
How lucky she is to have someone to explain to her the beautiful design of her body, how to take care of it well, so that she may someday become a mother.
