What to Expect Coming off the Pill
Question
I am a healthy 20 year old. I have recently come off of birth control, ortho tricyclen, after giving my life to Christ, trying to do the right thing, so it was a personal decision that I will not be sexually active anymore. I was wondering what side effects I could expect to have? How long until my next period, etc.?

Dear Aimee,
Congratulations on your personal decision. I know you will be blessed. By not being sexual active you no longer have to worry about sexually transmitted diseases or broken relationships and you can spend this time looking for a fulfilling marriage partner if that is your vocation. You didn’t state how long you were on the pill. The most common side effects are: you may not have your first menses for several weeks or months, it may take up to six cycles for your system to recover, you may be temporarily anovulatory, your first ovulation may be slightly painful and you may experience episodes of unusual bleeding.
Again, know that you have made the right decision and the Lord will guide and support you.
