My period was 2 days late last month. Will this delay my ovulation – or do I still count from first day of last period for approximation of ovulation. My cycle is 28-29 day cycle. Thank you 🙂

Ovulation Timing with Late Period
Question
Answer
Last Updated: June 11, 2013
When a woman usually has a 28-29 day cycle each month and then has a 31 day cycle this is sometimes surprising if she is unfamiliar with monitoring the daily events of her cycle in the first place. These major events that occur in each cycle are estrogen rise and fall, ovulation, progesterone rise and fall and menstruation, in that order.
The question, will these extra 2 days of cycle length delay ovulation? The answer is “no” because the next cycle’s ovulation is unrelated, usually to the events of the previous cycle.
The question, do I still count from the first day of the last menstrual period for the approximate day of ovulation? The answer is “no” . The first day of the next cycle does begin with the first day of menstruation always, however the determination of when ovulation will occur is not a matter of so many days from the beginning of menstruation but an average of 14 days after ovulation to the next menstruation.
I’m sure you would be delighted to see how your cycle evolves cycle after cycle on a daily natural family planning chart and would be amazed how clearly these signs can be seen and understood, giving you valuable information about your reproductive health.
