Trying to Get Pregnant with Irregular Cycles
Question
I am 23 years old and I am trying to get pregnant with my fiance but it has not happened yet. We have been trying for over a year now.
I have had my periods since I was nine years old and they have always been irregular for me. I got them once or maybe twice every two years and they would last about ten days. I have been on birth control before. Actually I have been on it more than once. I don’t know what to do. We are running out of things to do.
I was wondering if you could recommend anything.

It seems that due to your irregular cycles you may be having a tough time knowing when you are the most fertile. Taking contraceptives for birth control and the stress you are feeling may also be causing further difficulty. I would suggest contacting a Billings Ovulation Method teacher so you can learn how to detect your signs of fertility. In this way you will be aware of the optimum time to try to achieve a pregnancy. Understanding the functions of your body will also help to alleviate some of the stress. If there are other problems you will also be able to understand what they may be and get treatment. Also if you are having healthy cycles your mate may be the one that needs to be tested and diagnosed.
As you can see there are many factors that make up a couple’s fertility and understanding and what they are can cause the anxiety that has been building for the past year to disappear. Sometimes that is all it takes to resume regular fertile cycles.
