My husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for almost two years. I had one miscarriage a year ago and a dermoid cyst removal in June. Now my doctor wanted me to have a progestorene level done on day 21 of my cycle and my level was 9.6 I did take a round of clomid during this cycle. I’m very frustated at this point and ready to change doctors.

Day 21 Progesterone Level
Question
Answer
Last Updated: November 20, 2014
It is difficult to say if that is a normal progesterone level, without knowing when it was drawn in relation to your ovulation. Day 21 of your cycle does not tell us that. But it does sound on the low side.
I advise learning to chart your cycles, so you can get a vivid, concrete picture of your fertility. You will be able to track the specific characteristics of your menses, the qualities and duration of your fertile mucus, and the length of your luteal phase, among other things. This will not only help you time intercourse optimally to achieve pregnancy, but also provide insight into why you have not been successful at achieving and maintaining a pregnancy these past two years. With a few cycles of charting, you will then be in the educated position to consult with a physician who is experienced in reading the charts, and evaluating your fertility, such as timing progesterone levels based on when ovulation occurs in the cycle in which the levels are drawn.
Professionals who can help you amass this cycle history, and physicians who can utilize the information to evaluate and treat you, can be found at www.canfp.org.
I wish you well!
