Did I Stop Prometrium Too Early?
Question
I had read on the internet that taking prometrium after vulation can help promote pregnancy. Last cycle after vulation I started taking prometrium, but then after about 8-10 days I stopped it. I got my period, so I assumed I wasn’t pregnant. But, now I’m thinking could I have been pregnant, and miscarried because I stopped the prometrium? I did have some strange breast sensations. Could stopping the prometrium too early have caused a miscarriage?
If I was or did, I am so upset with myself. Is there any way I can know? And, what do you think?

Prometrium is basically progesterone. Progesterone is an important hormone that rises after ovulation and helps prepare the lining of the uterus to accept a pregnancy. Sometimes the best way to supplement a woman who might be progesterone deficient is to provide progesterone intra-muscularly with an injection. This assures the progesterone is best absorbed by the woman’s body. Progesterone provided by mouth or through a vaginal preparation has a low absorption rate to produce the needed results of increasing a women’s levels. Whenever progesterone is supplemented with injections, blood levels are usually followed before discontinuing the prescription. Given your case, it is difficult to fully assess whether or not you were pregnant. Usually a urine pregnancy test is positive approximately 14 days after conception. I don’t think the prometrium you were taking was sufficient to support a pregnancy, however that’s assuming you are indeed progesterone deficient. If you have not already done this, the advice I will give you is to learn the Creighton Model through a qualified instructor to help identify when ovulation occurs. If a problem with infertility arises, then you should be referred to a Medical Consultant. God Bless.
