I am 29 years old and just had my second miscarriage. I am fairly healthy and my periods are regular – 28 days. We have tried three times and had a pregnancy twice, both ending at nine weeks two days. I started spotting both times at six weeks. This time when I called the on-call doctor, she was concerned and talked for awhile and at the end suggested I should take prometrium next time. So I went to my doctor today and she is dead against it, saying there is no proof that it helps, but if something was published tomorrow, she would have to change her tune. And she said, “I can tell by looking at you your progesterone, it’s fine.” I am going to the other doctor I talked to for a second opinion. My doctor said that if I miscarry again I will need to go for genetic counselling, as that is probably the problem.
My question is would there be any harm in me trying the progesterone next time? I know my betas were doubling at six weeks (I had bloodwork done). I think it is worth a try. Any advice would be appreciated.
