Doctor Reluctant to Explore Cause of Second Miscarriage

Question

I am 30 years old. I have four children and have been trying to conceive our fifth but have had two miscarriages: one in July @ about six weeks and then got pregnant in October with twins and lost them one at 11 weeks the other twin died at 12 weeks. I carried them in their demised state for another two weeks before having a d&c on Dec. 21. My doctor says that it was a bad implantation. I think otherwise. He encourages me to try again in three months but he doesn’t want to do any test but I can’t go through another loss without knowing what has been causing the miscarriages.
Do you think that my problem could be a progestrone or hormonal problem? I had my thyroid checked after my first miscarriage and it was perfect. Please help. My heart is shattered and my mind has been obssessing over the reason for my losses.

Dear Crystal,

First I’d like to say that I am sorry for your losses. Two miscarriages are two too many.

I’d also like to ask if you are charting your cycle at all. If you are not, I highly recommend you take instructions with one of the members of CANFP that is near your area. By charting your cycle, you and your practitioner may be able to notice any abnormalities in your cycle.

With this knowledge you can discuss the situation with your MD. You may be able to time tests to the optimum time in your cycle to check that particular hormone. This would be done before you tried to conceive again so that when you did, the necessary precautions to help your pregnancy continue would be in place.
