Doctor Says Problem With My Ovulation

Question

Dear Dr.,
I have been trying to conceive for about six months now. For three of those months my gyno gave me clomid. I felt it worked the first month, but afterwards the effect seemed to change. I was no longer feeling as if I was ovulating.

My gyno thinks this may be a problem with my ovulation, but I think there is more to it. I have been experiencing painful intercourse, painful orgasms, and I seem to spot at the smallest press against my uterus. After this last visit and exam, I began my menstrual ten days early and I told my gyno, and again he said it may be related to ovulation.

My question is, can ovulation cause all of this: Spotting, Painful Intercourse, Painful Orgasms, and then I bleed easily when my uterus is pushed against? I have also had a very low sex drive.

Now, I am questioning him, but I am no expert. He has told me to take progesterone starting next month for seven days, then the clomid again. Does this therapy sound right?

I am scared. I have never had children, and I am 33, I am hoping this is nothing serious, but more than that I am hoping it does not make the chances of my having a child lower. If I bleed so easily, would that risk a miscarriage?

Help would be very much appreciated.

I agree with you that what you are experiencing should not be attributed to ovulation. You need a more in depth evaluation.

The painful intercourse could be due to endometriosis which can affect fertility. The spotting could be due to cervical inflammation.

The progesterone might be more precisely given in a cooperative fashion as is done with NaProTechnology. NaProTechnology uses information gathered from charting your mucus and menstrual flow with the Creighton Model of Fertility Care. With the Creighton Model we can precisely time the measurement of estradiol (“estrogen”) throughout the cycle and progesterone in the “post-peak” phase, the time after ovulation.
