My wife (26) and I (32) have been trying to get pregnant for about 12 months. We had a miscarriage approximately 18 months ago and her cycle has not been back to normal since. She has been taking Clomid for three months and another drug to induce her period. The doctor confirmed she was ovulating early this month. We recently got word that a pap smear came back abnormal (which has never come back abnormal before) and she will have to get a biopsy. The more I read about our situation the more confused and concerned we get. We know many people whom have had miscarriages and have been able to conceive within months. What should we do? Or is there something we are supposed to be doing? Thank you.

Unable to Conceive Following Miscarriage

Dear Mike,
It is difficult to advise you based on the information provided. It is of course very important your wife pursue the abnormal pap smear results per her doctor’s recommendation.
You ask what you can do to help you conceive, and for that I would recommend consulting an NFP Professional to help you learn to chart your cycles. This can provide a great deal of information that can not only identify when you are fertile, but also provide vital information that can help in identifying not only the reason for the delay in conceiving, but also if there are indications you might be at risk for a repeat miscarriage.
You can begin charting your cycles immediately, even while pursing the biopsy for the abnormal pap smear. If you are in California, we do have a list of NFP Professionals on our website at www.canfp.org.
I hope the biopsy provides you with a clean bill of health, and the charting of the cycles leads to a successful pregnancy.
