Aham,
There are two medications I am aware of that help the quantity and quality of sperm. The first is the over-the-counter agent ProXeed which is the amino acid L-carnitine, an essential nurtrient of sperm production. It is the only known “natural” ingredient that may help. You may obtain it directly from the manufacturer, Sigma-Tau Pharmaceuticals at www.proxeed.com or 1-877-776-9333. The second is the hormonal agent Clomiphene, a derivative of the clover leaf. It “tells” the pituitary gland to send more hormones to the gonads to increase the chance of an egg being released from the ovary in a woman or to increase the quality/quantity of sperm in a man. It is prescription only.
Since it takes six weeks for the sperm to complete their maturation cycle it takes longer than that to know if a chosen therapeutic agent is useful. The most reasonable interval to check on progress is about three months. And remember that the maximum sperm count occurs with a minimum of three days of abstinence but no longer than two weeks (Ejaculating more often than every three days depletes the number of available sperm…the testes cannot keep up. Abstaining for longer than a few weeks tells the body you simply don’t need as many sperm, so it reduces production).
