My husband has had a vasectomy for 19 years. He is 45 and I am 28. We have talked about having children . He had a sponge testicle after having his vasectomy. Will that affect us having any children or him undergoing icsi? And just out of curiosity, what is the chances of having a baby after a vasectomy?
Thanks, Tracy

Considering Reversal 19 Years Later

Tracy,
I do not know what a “sponge testicle” means, so I cannot address that question. Vasectomy reversal may be attempted on anyone…it is just that the chance of scarring (“blow-outs”) further upstream from the vasectomy reversal site in the delicate tubular epididymis increases with each passing year. I had one patient with a “zillion” sperm on both sides in spite of a vasectomy thirty years prior, and another with zero after only three years. There is a lot of individual variation.
I do not recommend any of the so called assisted reproductive technologies for spiritual reasons discussed in other parts of this website.
