I am currently about two weeks late for my period. I have taken two home pregnancy tests, and they both came up negative. About 4 months ago I got off of my birth control, and my boyfriend and I have not been using protection. Is there any way that these home test are incorrect? Should I go to the doctor? Please help… Thanks

Dear Heather,
Today’s pregnancy tests, if used correctly, are fairly accurate, although nothing is 100%. One of the effects of coming off the pill is long irregular cycles. It seems due to residual suppression of ovulation that cycles are longer and then are followed by short cycles. The length of time until the return of regular cycling varies from woman to woman. When using a natural method you will not be exposed to any possibly harmful side effects. By making daily observations as directed by the Billings Ovulation Method you will be able to identify your fertile days and either plan or postpone pregnancy (99% effective). It is very easy to learn!
I urge you to learn how to manage your cycles so that you will be able to notice abnormalities that need your doctor’s attention and you don’t worry unnecessarily. This information will also be valuable when starting a family. If you don’t feel ill please see a NFP teacher first.
