First Trimester Pain
Question
I had two miscarriages and now pregnant at nine weeks. The ultrasound showed a heartbeat and the doctor prescribed Ecotrin and Cyclogest. I am now constantly in pain (like menstural pains). I am taking Panado for the pain which stops only for an hour or two. The doctor is saying that the baby is fine and does not know why I am having these pains.
Please advise.

Seeing the baby’s heartbeat is very reassuring. It is not common to lose a pregnancy after seeing the heartbeat. With two pregnancy losses, Ecotrin (aspirin) and Cyclogest (progesterone) are reasonable medications.
Your pain could be from an ovarian cyst, stretching of the ligaments with uterine growth, or possibly from your intestines (constipation, gas, irritable colon).
You should inform your doctor as soon as possible that you are experiencing pain, and go in for another exam so that it can be determined if your pain is a normal discomfort of pregnancy or indicative of a more serious problem.
