Two weeks “late” but negative pregnancy test

It is difficult to know if you are truly two weeks late for your period, if you are just going from when you had your last period. Menstruation follows ovulation by an average of two weeks, and the accurate way to know when to expect your next period is to identify ovulation. This of course is also important in assisting you in timing intercourse to achieve pregnancy. We have a team of experts in California who can assist you in this process, and an online directory at www.canfp.org to aid you in finding the expert nearest you.
The cycle length can vary for many reasons. If your ovulation is delayed in a cycle, due to stress or illness for example, your menses will also be delayed. This is the common explanation for what is often perceived as a late period. But if you did ovulate, and have gone more than 17 days past that ovulation without a menses, then you are probably pregnant.
