Attending the HV50 Conference in July 2018 has given me occasion to reflect on my 22 years as a member of CANFP and what it has meant to me. Not only was I strengthened and enriched at the HV50 Conference but I was also able to visit with old friends and colleagues with whom I have been able to stay connected through CANFP. Some of these friends I met at my very first CANFP Conference in 1996, to which I came not knowing anyone, but with every confidence that I would be warmly welcomed. Within a couple of years of attending my first CANFP Conference I was trained to become a certified NFP Instructor, and the bonds I have shared with my fellow practitioners have only become stronger. Through subsequent CANFP Conferences, Archdiocesan meetings, regional get-togethers, and NFP Enrichment Classes, I have been so blessed to maintain my ties with both the English speaking and Spanish speaking NFP communities. CANFP has contributed greatly to this ongoing growth by presenting and hosting many of these classes and events, in addition to the many CANFP Conferences held in different areas of our beautiful Golden State through the years. The 50th Anniversary of Humanae Vitae, and all that this momentous occasion signifies, especially with the Canonization of Pope Paul VI, is the perfect chance for me to express my gratitude. CANFP has been with me at every step: thanks!

How NFP Has Blessed My Marriage And Strengthened My Walk With God During This Struggle Called Life
“The life of man upon earth is warfare.’ So said Job many centuries ago. There are still some easygoing individuals unaware of this fact” St. Josemaria Escriva I read a fascinating article a while ago about happiness. It seems the least happy times for most people are in their 40’s—with...
NFP Changed Our Lives
My husband and I were married seven years ago, and our first daughter is nine months old. At the beginning of our marriage, we loosely used the sympto-thermal method to avoid a pregnancy. We hoped to continue this self-taught method to achieve pregnancy within a year. When that didn’t happen,...
NFP Worked in Our Marriage In Ways We Did Not Anticipate
When my husband and I first got married we had no idea of the richness of grace our marriage would provide for us as a couple. Being Catholics we had an understanding that contraception wasn’t the way to go in terms of planning our family and that a moral alternative...
Answering the Call
To me, being a Professional Member of CANFP means belonging to an elite group of people in California who are doing God’s work. I am a Creighton Model FertilityCare Practitioner (FCP). Before becoming an FCP, I had a nearly 16year career in agricultural finance. I loved my career and serving...
Long and Winding Road to Parenthood
Our path to NaPro was long and winding. We experienced two heartbreaking miscarriages in the early years of our marriage followed by seven years of infertility. Discouragement had definitely set in when dear friends referred us to Dr. Amie Holmes. She performed laparoscopic surgery for endometriosis and ovarian cysts, then...
Natural Family Planning as Pilgrimage
Recently, I had the incredible blessing of walking the Camino de Santiago. This ancient pilgrimage led my family and me across northern Spain, where we followed the footsteps of St. James the Apostle and ended at the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. It was a powerful time of prayer and...
Diocesan Partners
Wow, CANFP has been around as long as I have been an NFP teacher and that means I have been a member of CANFP for 27 years now! And what a joy it has been to be affiliated with CANFP for all these years. My husband and I first learned...
NFP Has Been a Blessing
Practicing NFP as an unmarried, 24-year-old woman has been one of the greatest blessings of my early twenties. I wouldn’t describe myself as a very tenacious person. I am not motivated to complete tasks simply from the satisfaction of checking them off my list. My motivation comes from being able...
